It is a long-held belief in my family that my Great Grandfather was in the Black & Tans.
I have obtained a copy of Jim Herlihy's book which lists all servicemen of the RIC including Black & Tans. My Great Grandfather is not listed.
Has anyone else come across this problem?
Does this mean he definitely was NOT a B&T?
What other groups (e.g. British military) were present in Ireland in 1920-22?
Is anyone able to offer me any advice as to where to look next to solve this mystery?
His name was Frank Townend (Francis William Frederick Townend) b. 1893 Huddersfield.
