http://www.independent.ie...ved-2508086.html?start=2 This is a link from today's Irish Independent. Lots of families have folklore of incidents involving the Black and Tans, not least my own. My late Aunt (1911-2007) often recounted witnessing her father being tied to an apple tree while guns were trained on him. My grandfather was under suspicion of harbouring a fugitive. The residence and outhouses were searched while other members of the Black & Tans, from the bed of a lorry, helped themselves to the ripe apples in the orchard. Having found nothing untoward they departed. Whether my grandfather was a sympatiser with the rebels or not would certainly have been influenced following this incident. Anne |
