M.C. London Gazette 14.11.1916 Temp. 2nd Lt. Frederick Lindsay Hamilton, K.O. Sco. Bord., 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He continually moved about the front line under very heavy fire. Later with great courage, he rallied a party of men and re-occupied and evacuated a portion of a trench.'

Major Frederick Lindsay Hamilton, M.C., served during the Great War as 2895 Private 14th London Regiment in the French theatre of operations from, 15.9.1914; Second Lieutenant Middlesex Regiment, 25.1.1915; Acting Captain 7th Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers, 28.5.1916; Officer Commanding 'B' Company 7/8th (Service) Battalion K.O.S.B.'s during the attack and capture of Martinpuich, Somme (see M.C. citation), 'At 7.35.am O.C. 'B' Coy. reported "Am now at extreme right of our final objective. Bottom Trench being consolidated. Casualties about 40%" (War Diary 7/8th Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers, refers); wounded in action on the Somme (M.I.D. London Gazette 14.11.1918; France, Legion d'Honneur London Gazette 22.11.1918; Croix de Guerre same gazette); posted Major, Second in Command 2nd Battalion Slavo British Legion (Burke's), Isako Gorka, 20.5.1919; on the 5th July 1919, the 1st Battalion S.B.L. mutinied at Tuisamnika killing 2 British Officers, 2 Russian Officers and 3 orderlies- in-conjunction with this, 200 men of the 4th North Russian Rifles rebelled at Troitsa. The mutiny was put down and as a result of the 1st Battalion's actions all S.B.L. battalions were disarmed on the 16th July. Hamilton was next employed by the Gold Coast Police Force and received his Colonial Meritorious Service Medal in 1943.
