D.I. Heggart was born in Castleconnell, Co. Limerick on 17th September 1870. He received the 1903 Visit to Ireland Medal and the Constabulary Medal (1916, Easter Rising, Enniscorthy). In 1922 he was awarded the King's Police Medal. This photograph shows him in the full dress uniform of a District Inspector at Enniscorthy, wearing both his Visit and KPM medals. It is interesting to speculate if he had to exchange his Constabulary Medal on being awarded the KPM.
