A memorial service was held in February 2010 in County Longford, commemorating members of the Garda Siochana who fell in the line of duty. In a very welcome spirit of inclusiveness the ceremony included the names of members of the RIC and Auxiliary Division who were killed in Longford during the Troubles of 1919-1921. You can listen to this clip on Radio Ulster here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00r4wrn#p006nnm3
Also note in the clip a reference to a planned memorial in Dublin Castle. Truly a breakthrough and perhaps a foretaste of a more enlightened period now apparent in Ireland.

The Longford Leader also reported the event here: Longford Leader 4th March 2010. Well done to retired Garda Pat McCarthy.
