Posts: 735 15-Jan-2011 2:37 AM Inspector-General	The barracks on High St, 1920. Taken shortly after the killing of District Inspector Peter Burke, and the wounding of his brother Sgt Michael Burke; an action that sparked a reprisal from Black and Tans at nearby Gormanston. In the ensuing events, at least 19 houses were burned (some reports claim up to 54, but accounts are very inconsistent), 4 pubs and one factory destroyed, and two men killed; Lt Seamus Lawless, IRA, and John Gibbons. The following photo shows the coffins of Lawless and Gibbons being walked through the town. It is interesting to note that the 'old' RIC turned out as a mark of respect as the funeral cortege passed. District Inspector 1st Class Posts: 85 16-May-2012 12:21 PM	Just to let people know that there were 2 sites for RIC barracks in Balbriggan. The one in the first photo was the original barracks, near the harbour. The one on the main street was its later replacement. Des
