My name is Peter, and I am the owner and adminstrator of this site. My interest in the RIC started as a small child, on finding my grandfathers Visit to
Ireland medal and an old flintlock pistol, at the back of a cupboard. That medal, despite my near obliteration of it with a can of Brasso, is still my most
treasured possession.

Hi from Italy, here is Bruno.
I am a military headgear collector, and a recent irish history enthusiast. I was interested in the RIC by viewing some famous Ireland located movies just as "Ryan's Daughter", "Michael Collins" and "The wind that shakes the barley". Moreover i play in a U2 cover band, so Ireland is very present in my life, and obviously i like to go there on holiday everytime i can. Hope i will able to post some useful stuff in the forum. |

Hello, Steven here. I'm a retired Deputy Sheriff from California in the USA. Have always had a keen interest in the RIC and RUC due to their uniqueness as opposed to other police agencies in the United Kingdom. I do have a question. Did the RIC publish a regulations manual detailing the aspects of their uniforms, insignia and equipment? I have yet to find such a publication.

Hi Steven and a big welcome to you. Hope you find the forum of interest and a source of information. As regards your query, no there was no such published document. There is information to be had from various other publications such as the RIC Finance Code which stipulates items of the dress code to be worn, sometimes in some detail (eg for officers); but nothing along the lines you're looking for. Photographs, original uniforms and sealed pattern examples are the primary references.

Hi, Brian here from the U.S. I have been interested in Irish military history for about 35 years now and belong to an organization that presents Irish military history from 1798 to the Emergency Period to the public. I am hoping to learn as much as possible about the role the ADRIC played during the Irish War of Idependence.
