The list of stations in this County has been taken from the January 1910 Constabulary Lists. The first station noted in bold is the Head Quarters station of the District, and the consecutively numbered towns are sub-stations within that District. Some stations are noted as J.S., Hut or T.S.; these represent Joint Stations (usually situated on the border with an adjacent County), police Protection Huts and Temporary Stations, respectively.

Ballyneety - Sgt John Quilter held the 1903 Visit to Ireland Medal. By 1919 the Sergeant-in-Charge at Ballyneety was John T Goulden 52974. Sgt Goulden was one of a party of 5 RIC guarding a prisoner at Limerick Workhouse Jail when a group of Volunteers attempted a rescue on 6 April 1919. The prisoner was Robert Byrne, Adjutant of Limerick City's 2nd Battalion of the IRA. A group of 39 IRA entered the hospital and in the ensuing melee all of the RIC were shot; Constable Martin O'Brien 62375 of Caherconlish dying shortly afterwards. Constable Spillane of Askeaton Barracks had his spine shattered (he was lying on top of the prisoner at this stage), also wounded were Constables Tierney (Kilteely Bks) and Fitzpatrick (Clarina Bks). Byrne, who was also shot in the melee (whether by an RIC bullet or by a stray round is unclear), managed to escape but died that same evening.
Constable Spillane was awarded the King's Police Medal for Gallantry, but was never able to return to work due to his injury. DesW has added: My Michael Doyle (57353) was Sergt in a Co Limerick barracks when 1911 census was taken. Initials & signature & RIC record all match.
