Peter I hope you can help me out on this one.I have been looking at the copy I have of my great grandfathers service record Edward Guilfoyle 40909 in more
detail and note firstly that the next recruit down from him Bernard Bowe 40910 joined the same day and was recommended by the same District Inspector
(Ward).Ward was based in Templemore and I have established that Edward was from Templetoughy just outside Templemore.I have further established that Bernard
was from Templetoughy as well so there is little doubting they were neighbours/friends. I know that Edward's first posting was in Co Roscommon and
Bernard's was Co Longford but both have a Tub/Sub??? Rec for 29/06/87.What exactly is your understanding of this and why would men in different Counties
have recieved this on the same day? FYI Bernard Bowe was promoted to Sergeant and his last posting was Co.Cork.He appears on the 1911 Census for Middletown Co
Cork, aged 60 and married to his wife Johanna who was only 45.They had married in 1882 whilst he was serving in Co.Kerry. Regards Michael Guilfoyle
