RIC man Lappin |

I have already put up a post, but havent had much response,so am trying a new one. My great grandmothers father was in the RIC and based in Bennettsbridge,Co
Kilkenny at the time she was born which was 1870. On her birth cert his name is Paeden Lappin. I have searched on the ancestry uk site and i can only find a
Eaden Lappin,so i am presuming that is him as i can only find 1 other Lappin in the ric and the dates would be wrong. Eaden fits the bill as i have always been
told he was born in Armagh. Maybe someone might be able to look something up for me or point me in the right direction.I also tried the psni but they dont
reply to emails. Eaden Lappin enlisted in 1852 and then it says D1878, is this when he died?
Thanks Kieran |

I think Peter has already pointed you in the right direction. His service number was 15865 which comes from the book 'The Royal Irish Constabulary A complete Alphabetical list of Officers and Men 1816-1922'. You are indeed correct regarding PSNI Museum but you can obtain his service record from the Garda Museum,Dublin Castle and also The Public Records office in Belfast.I'm assuming here you live in Ireland. I have used the UK Ancestory site and 'D' does stand for death. His service record will be a great way of finding out more about your great great grandfather. Michael Guilfoyle |

Thanks Michael and to Peter also. I have just discovered this morning i have another relation in the RIC.He was Sgt Daniel McLoughlin. He was 48 years old in
the 1911 census and was stationed in Mullinavat, Co Kilkenny at that time.If you had any information on him and i could get the 2 service records together
then. Thanks again Kieran

Kieran Based on his age I would say his service number is 50774.There were only five Daniel McLoughlin's in the RIC. Michael Guilfoyle

Thanks again Michael. I iwll check with the Garda muesem about getting these. I have access to the RIC records on the ancestry uk site, but i havent been able
to find Daniel McLouglin on it. Also the Lappin one is down as Eaden, just wondering is that how it is spelt in your book.

It is spelt as Haden in the book. I also tried ancestors.com in relation to Daniel McLoughlin with no luck although the info in relation to an RIC man is fairly limited in comparison to his service recordWhat do you know of this man?I'm intersted to know what happened to him after retirement/disbandment? I presume it means then that the ancestry .com site is not complete. What detail is in the book? I have no idea what happened him after that. Even though the family lived only 20 miles away, my side of the family seemed to have no contact with them, but im sure i will have more information soon. There is a lot of catholic\protestant marriages in the family tree and i think that may have led to splits over th years. My Fathers Aunt who is now dead, spoke of Lappins comming to Kilkenny to visit, but after 1922 it stopped, so it will be interesting as i go through it Kieran |
