1. Service Records of Constables and Other Ranks
You will need to have the individuals full name and approximate year of entry into the force. From that this forum may be able to help you identify a service number (also known as the Registered Number). You can then apply to obtain his service record.

The record will show only basic information; other detail on the person has either been destroyed or is generally not kept in any publicly accessable format. Here is an example taken from the RIC General Register:

The categories recorded are Name; Age When Appointed/Date of Birth; Height; Native County; Religion; If Married, Date; Native County of Wife; Recommendations; Trade or Calling; Appointment; Allocation (to what County); Promotions or Reductions; Rewards, Marks of Distinction and Favourable Records; Punishments; If Discharged, Dismissed, Resigned or Dead; Injuries, if Received on Duty; and If Dead, Probable Cause of Death/If Resigned, Why?

The original records were transferred to the National Archives in Kew, England and are found in the HO184 series. They can be viewed (usually in microfilm format) for free; however copies of the microfilms are held at several museums and by certain individuals, who usually make a charge for their service. Other microfilm copies are held at the National Archives in Dublin, and by the Church of Latter Day Saints.

I would recommend contacting the PSNI Museum at the following link - Police Service of Northern Ireland Museum . You may choose to use another commercial provider, it is purely a personal choice.

The process for ordering from the PSNI Museum is as follows:
Genealogical enquiries are usually answered within a week to ten days. The mechanism for ordering a search (the standard fee for which is £25) is to go to https://www.paypal-marketing.co.uk/sendmoney/pay_for_goods.htm and offer payment to museum@pani.police.uk.
They can receive requests direct or forwarded from the PSNI website.
