This badge was worn on the peaked cap circa 1902-1922. It was afterwards taken into use by the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

An RIC 'other ranks' cap badge circa 1880-1902. Worn on the small 'pill-box' cap which was withdrawn in October 1900 and replaced by the peaked or 'German' forage cap. Only the Mounted Troop retained the pill box after this date.
