Remove this ad I obtained the following list of members in every county from "House of Lords Sessional Papers 1801-1833" and will gladly do a lookup, I'm posting King's County. These individuals may or may not be in Jim Herlihy's book as it is from the Constabulary Act of 1822 and not yet the R.I.C. Recruit Posts: 1 15-May-2010 11:17 AM	Thanks for posting this info - very useful! My g-g-g grandfather Patrick Speerin(g) was described as a "Sergent of Police" on the baptism record of one of his children, but there is no record of him in the RIC (Jim Herlihy was kind enough to look too). He lived in various places across South Tipperary, near Tipperary town and Cashel (according to his children's baptism records). I found mention of him in two newspaper articles in 1839 (described as a Police Constable) and he was apparently the arresting officer in the case of Cornelius Hickey who was tried and hanged for the murder of Austin Cooper and Francis Wayland. The latter "Agrarian Outrage" set in motion a series of events that eventually led to the Devon Commission. But the question is: if he was not in the RIC, was he in the County Constabulary? and how do I find out? That's where your post above caught my eye. Could you possibly look up the records you found to see if he is listed there? And secondly, how did you find these so I can look for similar ones myself? Many thanks for your help with this.

Posts: 539 10-Sep-2010 9:03 PM Inspector-General	I received a note today from Jim Herlihy as follows: To answer the query regarding why some of these don’t appear in my red RIC book is that only those who were serving in 1836 and onwards are in my book when the Irish Constabulary was formed as a national police force.
