This group was most probably taken in the yard at Waringstown RIC Barracks, County Down, around 1922. It shows a group of
constables and their sergeant, together with the 'barracks dog', a common feature of rural police life.
Constable William Guilfoyle 69369 is standing first left. The sergeant in the centre is most probably Sgt Robert Gilmour 60578. He had a medal given by the Society for the Protection of Animals, most probably the Belfast SPCA. The local district headquarters station was at Banbridge where Head Constable John J Stokes 53894 would have had the most frequent contact with the Warringstown RIC. The District Inspector at Banbridge was DI (1st class) Thomas J Allen.
William had a brother, Sergeant Michael Guilfoyle 64310 who served in Galway and Mayo.
