Anybody got any information on an incident where a party of RIC policemen travelling in a horse-drawn trap drove into the Royal Canal near Longwood Village, Co. Meath, at night. All were drowned. This is said to have happened at the Boyne Aqueduct where the Royal Canal and Midland Great Western Railway are carried over the River Boyne in aqueducts. No date for this incident.

Perhaps this was the Constable Geoghegan, who drove off the road at night at a place called 'The Docks' near Longwood. Both horse and car were trapped
neneath the ice. See Irish Times Jan 24 1891 p2.
