Sergeant Posts: 6 22-Nov-2010 11:15 PM	I've been searching for an RIC man in the rating records in Slane (Co. Meath) 1868-75, which I know was his posting, but can't find him. I've been assuming that as he was married he would not have lived in barracks. Is this assumption correct? Any other ideas why he might not have a rating record?

Head Constable Posts: 11 25-Nov-2010 12:24 AM	Google Streetview is great for this. I found the old RIC station in Goresbridge by looking up the village in Google maps. It's surprising how many towns have a Barrack street - dead giveaway. Drag the wee Streetview man into Barrack Street and there's the tell-tale radio mast behind the Garda station. Lovely old building. Also good for getting a look at the house your forebears lived in in 1901, or 1911.
