PRONI recently launched a Historical Maps viewer which includes seven layers of historical Ordnance Survey Maps, dating from 1832 - 1986. The maps cover the six counties of present-day Northern Ireland. The application also features a number of more modern OSNI maps and aerial imagery
The application enables users to compare one map with another, exploring how landscapes and communities have evolved over time. Users can navigate to a specific location or search by address, townland, parish or town/village/city
The application also provides information on sites, buildings and landmarks of interest, including schools, churches and almost 16,000 historic and archaeological sites
