I was present at the launch of the Liverpool 1916 Commemoration Committee this week, introduced by Kevin McNamara, ex-Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. The committee has some worthwhile if ambitious plans for the event, which will be community based. They are looking for stories of Liverpool people who took part in the rising in whatever fashion - my great aunt was one such person, Cumann na mBan who was deported and jailed along with the Countess. I don't believe she was there in 1916 although she was certainly active at the time. Another line of research to be undertaken.
