I am looking for any information, articles, links on the formation of the Military Police Corps.
I have a personnel interest as some of my relatives were asked to help in the setting up of this new unit, one of my great uncles was transferred from the Dublin Guards to the Military Police, Collins Barracks in May 1922, my grandfather attained the rank of Provost Marshall , he was based in McKee Barracks, Dublin
These were difficult times because of the Civil War and the anti and pro - treaty divisions which split families, with brother against brother etc.
This new police unit of the Free State Army would require men who were hard, respected and of integrity as they would have to carry out a different kind of police duty against their former colleague's, some of whom would have been in the same I.R.A. units and fought side by side in the War of Independence against the British Forces but had now taken the anti - treaty side.
As far as I am aware, little is known or been written about this Corps except for a few paragraphs that I have come across but they do not do it justice, any information would be appreciated
