Lewis, occupation RIC. I found Richard Lewis in the index and ordered the records from LDS. Assumed he was the Richard Lewis that joined 1879 at age 20.

I'm researching Richard Lewis - RIC, enlisted 1879 at age 20 (LDS records incoming). I have another document that states he was "RIC Pensioned". And another "Retired Civil Servant" I read RIC information that stated pensions were available after 25 years. Was this mandatory? Encouraged? Could they stay in the service longer?
