05/06/1921 - An RIC patrol is attacked in Swatragh, Co. Derry resulting in the death of Sgt Michael Burke and the wounding of S/Constable Kennedy.

Any further information about this would be gratefully received.

As far as errors in ,The R.I.C. Lists, one finds odd ones,which are normaly over sights, but i would not say it was typical, mens service records (or should i say service notes) being the worse for clerical errors or omissions of the highest degree.
Note- R.I.C. List, January 1921, under Promotions, since last Publication ( July 1920 ).- Promoted from Constable to Sergeant,- Stephen Kirwan, 58582, Dublin.

Just one little query.
I see that the death of my Grandfather Stephen Kirwan 58582 is included in the Serving Officers, And Other Ranks, ( Deaths ) R.I.C. List dated July 1921.
However, he's shown as a Constable, contrary to all other RIC records of him (promoted Sergt 1 Aug 1920; no subsequent Reduction in Rank); and contrary to press reports of "Sergeant Kirwan's" shooting and death.
Was this a clerical error on the RIC's part? After all, the clerks involved must have been relatively very busy in those times, given the level of casualties....
Any idea how typical such errors were, given your experience with their publications?
