in the RIC for about 6 years and then left to join the Western Australian Police where he moved up the ranks quickly to become an Inspector. I am at the moment
gettting his service records from their historical society. I was wondering if there was any information relating to RIC people joining the police in

			<description><![CDATA[ For many of the old colonial police and prison services at least, there was a policy of recruiting from the Irish Constabulary. Typically vacancies would be
notified to the force and a system of competitive examination was held to select suitable men. For example in 1890, 12 men were selected out of 40 who
presented themselves for service in the Trinidad Police. A trawl through Irish papers of the period may uncover something about jobs in the Western Australian
Police.

To answer your query, in this case I would say that yes, he was notified that he had the job before he left (and probably on an assisted or paid passage). If
he joined from Kilkenny, or was born there, then he wouldn&#39;t normally have served there. ]]></description>

Australia, would they have had a job with the Australian Police before they left Ireland?  I presume although he joined the RIC in Kilkenny that he would have
had to be stationed outside the county ]]></description>
