Hi Colin and welcome. The John you refer to above most likely had the service number 25734 and would have joined the Irish police circa 1860, which fits all your dates. Another John Haddock, 16705, joined around 1852. This may be no relation but its probably worth checking out. The service records will give you the county of birth and (usually) marriage date. By all means tell us more about him when you can and particularly about his career in the NZ Police.

I am looking for any information about John Haddock born 1839 or 1842 in Longford. He is my Great Great Grandfather.
He Joined the R.I.C and served for around 10 years.
Looks as if his father was also named John Haddock and his mother was Anne (maiden name Hall).

After leaving the I.R.C
He went to Australia
June 1867
Victoria Ausrtalia
Arrived aboard the ULCOATS as an unassisted passenger.

Oct 1867 Left Victoria Australia aboard the ALHAMBRA.
to New Zealand

The same year he joined the
Armed Constabulary of New Zealand 1867-1877
