			<description><![CDATA[ I would like to thank Peter for posting this on my behalf. <br>My Grand Uncle William Guilfoyle was born in 1899 in Ballina,Co Mayo,son of RIC Constable Edward Guilfoyle 40909 who was stationed in the town and Margaret Guilfoyle (nee Lenehan).He was the second youngest of six children and they resided beside the Barracks in Church Rd.On the 4th March 1918 he joined the Royal Irish Constabulary from Co.Leitrim where his mother moved on the death of his father in 1911 as she was originally from Jamestown.William already had a brother Michael serving in the RIC in Co.Galway at this time and his youngest brother Martin was to serve in the Gardai after independence.<br>He was posted to Warringstown in Co Down and on disbandment from the RIC on 31st May 1922 automatically joined the RUC (1747)on the 1st June 1922.He was stationed for a short time in Crossmaglen,Co Armagh where he was shot in the back and seriously wounded.He was later transferred to RUC Glenravill Street;RUC... ]]></description>

60578. He had a medal given by the Society for the Protection of Animals, most probably the Belfast SPCA. The local district headquarters station was at
Banbridge where Head Constable John J Stokes 53894 would have had the most frequent contact with the Warringstown RIC. The District Inspector at Banbridge was
DI (1st class) Thomas J Allen.

William had a brother, Sergeant Michael Guilfoyle 64310 who served in Galway and Mayo.
